American Cemwood was a company on the cutting-edge of “Fake Shakes,” more accurately called “Synthetic Shakes.” American Cemwood manufactured a man-made replacement for traditional wood shakes - wood shakes that were literally “expected” on California Ranch Style Homes ever since the 1950’s… Trivia Point: “Cedar Wood Shingles” are 3/8″ thick or less - anything thicker than 3/8″ are considered “Cedar Wood Shakes.” The American Cemwood products followed on the heels of the very popular pioneer of Fake Shakes: Cal-Shake… Almost every manufacturer that has produced Synthetic Shakes have closed their doors because of law suites, bankruptcy, or both.
